Installing SharePoint Server 2010 on a Domain Controller
Title: Installing SharePoint Server 2010 on a Domain Controller (DC)
Details: Installing SharePoint Server 2010 on a DC is not that difficult. However, you might run into some of the infrastructure issues that you might want be aware of before moving forward.
My Infrastructure:  SharePoint Server 2010 Ent x64 on a Windows 2008 Server Ent R2 x64 on DC box (#1) and SQL Server 2008 R2 x64 on a Windows 2008 Server Ent R2 x64 on SQL Box (#2)
Key Points:
  • If you have not already set DC then make sure you set the policies to Low ( you can bring them back later to their defaults )
  • Once you run DC Promo or equivalent in R2, and also have set the box # 2 with SQL, run the SPS 2010 pre-req's
  • Install all the pre-req's and then Install SPS 2010. // Creating users is imp during this step - make sure you have proper password set (might need to have characters *, ! etc)
  • Install SQL Server 2008 R2 version on box # 2 // Creating users is imp during this step (follow same password steps as in prev step)
  • Use the corresponding sql user and set sa pwd for mixed mode authentication
  • Go back to the DC and ping sql server // if doesnt work then run the command "netsh firewall set icmpsetting 8"
  • On the SQL box, make sure you add sql to firewall.
  • Ping and try to use udl file to check the connectivity
  • If connected > bingo.
  • Configure SPS2010 now. Select set up a new farm
  • Choose the db name and set the user // from above and
  • Run thru the screen as usual.
Happy Setup!
